Home EV charger installation: what to expect

A dedicated home charger beats living off public stations. A Level 2 wall unit on its own circuit is the usual setup for Adelaide houses. The work is straightforward when the board can take it — and that is the first thing we check, not the last.

1. Switchboard assessment

We look at spare capacity, existing protection, and whether the main can support a charger plus the rest of the house. If the board needs work first, we quote that honestly. Plugging a charger into a power point is not the same job and we will not pretend it is.

2. Placement and cable run

Garage, carport or driveway — we pick a spot you can actually park on, then run cable so it is tidy and to code. Surface conduit is sometimes the honest answer; chasing walls is not always worth it.

3. Install and compliance

The charger goes on a dedicated circuit with the right protection. Work is completed and documented to Australian electrical standards. Brand of charger is your call; we install what suits the board and the car.

4. Test and handover

We test before we leave and walk you through using it. If something on the board had to change, you will know what and why.
